Continuing out interview with Jodi Gonzales, one of the three Director’s for the Art Institute – Fashion Metamorphosis 2009 Student Fashion Show. (See Monday’s post for part 1 of this interview)
Thanks again for sitting down with us, Jodi. Now lets continue…
Q. How many designers applied to be showcased in the fashion show?
Forty-two designers applied and we selected the top thirty from the lot.
Q. How do you select the designer?
They are chosen by a select panel of non-bias judges who are not affiliated with the school. They judge on construction, application, function and form.
Q. So then, how are the models chosen for the show and what designer they will work with? Are they assigned or do the designer’s get to choose what models they would like to work with?
Models are chosen by the Fashion Show Production Class from a list of models from local agencies. They come and have a “Go See.” After that we deliberate and make our final selections. If a designer would like to request a friend, the model will have to go through the same set of criteria to be considered. If that “friend” model is approved, then they may work with that designer. Otherwise, models are assigned to designers.
Q. What components are involved in putting together a fashion show? And what do they do?
They are divided into groups. These groups handle different responsibilities and functions. For instance, the finance director is responsible for keeping the show on budget. The designer liaison facilitates between the designer and production team. Here is a quick break down of all the groups and what they do.
Visual leads – In charge of the VIP area and its decor and any special effects.
Music – This group is in charge of creating a musical mix that will fuse the mood and theme of the show together through music.
Choreographer – This group is in charge of making sure they time the music with the models as they move down the runway.
